About This Project

HomeAid Utah partnered with Shelter the Homeless, The Road Home, and Utah West Landscape to help transform the outdoor space at the Family Interim Non-Congregate Housing (FINCH) facility in South Salt Lake.

FINCH is Utah’s first non-congregate family shelter, providing private living spaces and supportive services for families experiencing homelessness. Recognizing the need for safe and welcoming outdoor areas for children and parents, HomeAid Utah helped lead the creation of a new playground, picnic area, and gathering space designed to bring comfort, stability, and joy to families during a difficult chapter in their lives.

With leadership and generous in-kind support from Utah West Landscape and the building community, what was once a parking lot was transformed into a functional outdoor environment where children can play and families can connect. The project also included long-lasting artificial turf and outdoor improvements designed to create a durable, family-friendly space.

Since opening in 2025, FINCH has served 148 families, including 223 children, with 65% of families exiting into stable housing. The facility provides private shelter accommodations, meals, case management, and connections to employment, education, and healthcare resources.

This project reflects HomeAid Utah’s mission to build dignified spaces that strengthen communities and support individuals and families experiencing homelessness. Through partnerships with service providers and Utah’s building industry, HomeAid continues to create environments that foster safety, healing, and hope.
